The Austin Family Student Emergency Support Fund shall be used to provide emergency funds for students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas.
The School of Journalism and Mass Communications assists students by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, or unavoidable emergency expenses due to circumstances beyond their control. Emergency funds are intended to assist students in addressing an immediate, unexpected financial hardship which might otherwise prevent them from continued participation as a KU student. Examples include emergency medical bills, death or illness of a family member that has resulted in financial hardship, victim of a crime or accident or natural disaster, fire or flood damage, food insecurity/lack of access to food, need for temporary housing, or unexpected vehicle repairs.
Currently enrolled students may apply for funds when they have exhausted all other resources (payment plans, additional student aid, assistance from family/friends, other personal resources). This funding is not intended to reimburse for expenses that have already been paid, or to replace or supplement existing financial aid. If student emergency funds are granted, they do not have to be repaid.
