Please complete the HERS program online application, which includes uploading and submitting a statement of purpose; essay; and a recent college transcript. Letters of recommendation should be submitted separately using the letters of recommendation form. The link to this form is available on the HERS website.

Both the online application and the letters of recommendation form must be completed for applicants to be considered. HERS program online applications and letters of recommendation forms must be submitted by 11:59pm (CST) on March 15, 2019. Check the HERS website for updates or deadline extensions.

NOTE: your responses/documents will not be saved. Please complete online application only when ready to submit all documents. PDF documents preferred, but will accept Word documents.

Statement of Purpose (400-500 words): Introduce yourself and explain how a HERS internship benefits your professional goals. Include a description of previous research experience.

Letters of Recommendation

In order for HERS program applications to be considered, two letters of recommendation must be received. One by an academic reference, and one by a character reference. You must provide the information of your references no later than March 15, 2019 by completing the letters of recommendation form. The link for the letters of recommendation form can be found on the HERS website, or by using this direct link:

You should communicate with your references to request letters of recommendation as soon as possible, and before submitting the letters of recommendation form, to give adequate time for thoughtful responses. You are not required to submit the online application before submitting the letters of recommendation form.
