Thank you for your interest in applying for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) in the Department of Educational Psychology. This application is for both current students and program applicants. Feel free to submit an application even if you are still waiting on an admission decision.

The deadline to submit an application for the coming academic year and/or summer term is February 21. After you have completed this form, please follow up by emailing your vita or resume to fritts@ku.edu.

The FTE and hours per week are listed with each course; please review this information carefully. It is our goal that most EPSY GTA offers be a .50 FTE (or equivalent) for the academic year. That said, there may still be the need for one term or .25 FTE appointments.

Notifications for academic year positions will go out after April 1. Most EPSY GTAs go to doctoral students, however, all students are encouraged to apply. All applications will be kept on file for the academic year in the event positions become available. Summer notifications will be sent separately, in late spring.

The GTA selection process is conducted with a primary interest in meeting the teaching needs of the department. Often, there are twice as many GTA applicants than there are positions or funding. We suggest that students keep their advisor and any faculty they have worked with informed of their interest and availability for other opportunities.

Please also note that, even though your GTA offer will include a course assignment, this is only an anticipated placement. There is often some shuffling of assignments and you can receive a revised offer any time. We try to keep this at a minimum.

GTA Expectations

- Attend About Teaching: New GTA Conference. Required of new GTAs only.
- Attend the EPSY Department GTA Orientation. Required of all GTAs.

- Attend the classes or lectures you are assigned to in your roles as a GTA.
- Hold office hours for at least three hours each week.
- If your plans change and you feel you are no longer able to accept the GTA appointment, please contact your faculty supervisor and the EPSY Department Chair as soon as possible and before you take any action.

Current doctoral students are expected to have their plan of study and residency agreement completed and/or updated before they will be considered for a GTA position.

If you have any questions, please contact Penny Fritts, fritts@ku.edu.
