All University of Kansas students are required to attend Orientation to enroll in their first semester of classes. In very rare cases, a student with a significant hardship or contractual obligation may be granted an exception.

All students who would like to request an exception must complete the Orientation Exception Survey in its entirety.

Before completing the survey, please make sure you have checked all Orientation dates for availability. Orientation is offered Mon-Fri in June and July, as well as select August dates just before the start of the semester. You can check available dates through the Orientation Registration Portal in Slate and you will need your KU Online ID (a123b456) and password to log in.

If your exception is approved, the first step in the process is a one-on-one Orientation meeting with an Orientation staff member.

Please indicate what days and times you could be available for an Orientation meeting. These meetings are conducted online through Zoom and last approximately one hour, and will be scheduled starting in mid-May. Meetings can be scheduled Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:30a-4:30p. All times are Central time zone (CST).

If you are approved for an exception your Advising and Enrollment appointment will take place online sometime after June 9th. If you will be unavailable for a 45-minute Zoom appointment after that date, please explain and let us know when you would be available.

Please Note: students are unable to register for classes before June 9th, so you may need to designate a parent or other trusted person as a delegate to enroll for you. You can talk more about this with our staff and your advisor.

Terms and Conditions:

The University of Kansas requires all new students to attend an in-person orientation session in order to enroll in their first semester of classes. Students may not enroll in classes without attending an orientation session.

Online orientation sessions are not available.
