Position type:
The Kansas Board of Regents policy on spoken English language competency states that prospective faculty members, excluding (a) visiting faculty with an appointment of one year or less and (b) those teaching in a language other than English, must have their spoken English competency assessed prior to employment through interviews with a minimum of three institutional personnel, one of whom shall be a student. Oral interviews shall be conducted either face to face or by mediated means (e.g., videoconference).

Please indicate below those individuals involved in the English language competency interview(s) of the prospective faculty member and their University roles.
Was the prospective faculty member named above found to have adequate spoken English language competency by a majority of interview committee members?
If a prospective faculty member is found to be potentially deficient in speaking ability based on the interview process, they are required to achieve a minimum score of 50 on the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK), 22 on the spoken English section of the Internet Based TOEFL (iBT), or 7 on the spoken English section of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to be eligible for hire. Testing can be completed through the KU Applied English Center. The complete Board of Regents policy is available here.
