Thank you for your interest in applying for the research assistantship with the Center for the Advancement of Researching on Eating Behaviors (CARE)! We have begun review of applications for Summer and Fall 2025 terms, and will update this form when we are no longer accepting applications. We would also like to provide you with a bit of information regarding the position before you complete the application.

The CARE lab focuses on research to benefit the assessment and diagnosis of eating disorders. Our most active study is funded by the Department of Defense and aims to develop a questionnaire that can assess disordered eating and other mood, anxiety, and trauma disorders in active duty military populations.

The CARE lab also has another branch, called the COPE lab, where all of our treatment-based studies are located. We are developing two treatment apps: one targeted towards college students with eating concerns, and another for teens stepping down from intensive treatment for anorexia nervosa.

We encourage you to explore our website for more information: http://care.ku.edu/

Undergraduate research assistants accepted into the lab will enroll in 3 credit hours of PSYC 480. As part of class expectations, RAs are asked to commit 10 hours per week to the lab—one of these hours is our mandatory Friday lab meeting from 9 - 10 AM. Additionally, RAs must be able to commit a minimum of two consecutive semesters to the lab (starting as an RA in the Spring semester and continuing in the Fall semester counts as two consecutive semesters). RAs are responsible for several tasks, including:
  • Interacting with participants using email, text, or phone call to address study questions, send reminders, or process payment
  • Managing data (e.g. coding data into the computer, updating participant records, ensuring all data is kept confidential at all times)
  • Reviewing participant surveys to confirm study eligibility or completion of a study procedure
  • Training other undergraduates on lab protocols
  • Attending regular lab and study meetings (9 AM on Fridays)
  • Assisting with updating the social media pages, outreach events on campus, and/or recruitment efforts for research studies
There may be additional tasks depending on what studies you might assist with. We encourage you to reach out to our Administrative Associate, Wulfe Wulfemeyer, with any questions you may have: wulfe@ku.edu

Please note that only complete applications will be reviewed by our team. An application is considered complete if every question has been answered and an academic summary and CV/resume have been provided, per the prompts in this submission form. The next page will take you to the application.
